Object Description

CLUTTON's lithotrity sound with curved bulbous end and cylindrical fluted handle with grip grooves, English gauge no 6. Manufacturer's name 'DOWN BROS LONDON' stamped into the handle's surface.

Acquisition Detail

  • Manufacturer: Down Bros.
  • Owner: Dr. Harold Dyer
  • History of Use: Used to help determine the presence of kidney stones in the bladder in male patients. The instrument was used by Dr Harold Dyer [1875-1963] born in England, he completed his medical training [M.R.C.S. & L.R.C.P.] in London in 1898 and a fellowship [F.R.C.S] in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1904. Dr Dyer served in the Boer War between 1900-1902 and in WWI 1915-1918. He emigrated to Canada in 1905 and became health officer for the Municipal District of North Vancouver. He became Coroner in 1923 until he retired in 1961.
