Object Description

Haemacytometer in red leather covered case consisting of graduated blood counting pipettes for both red and white corpuscles, tube with mount and double Neubauer counting chamber with cover glass. 'Haemacytometer' embossed into lid in gold coloured lettering. Name of owner 'J.C. Poole' written on strip of tape adhering to lid surface.

Acquisition Detail

  • Owner: Dr. John Cranstoun Poole
  • History of Use: Dr. Poole [1911-1993] graduated from the University of Manitoba Faculty of Medicine. Served in WWII with the RCAMC stationed in Italy and northwestern Europe. In 1945 he returned to Vancouver and joined the staff at Vancouver Military Hospital [later called Shaughnessy]. 1947 he joined the staff of the Department of Anesthesia at Vancouver General Hospital where he stayed until he retired from full-time practice in 1973.
